A Slide for People in a Hurry - AKA A Transfer Accelerator

1 comment:
Saw this at The Presurfer:
Dutch train passengers running late to their appointments have a quicker option for getting across Overvecht Station in the city of Utrecht - and that option isn't a new flight of stairs or an elevator.
Design firm HIK Ontwerpers recently installed a slide in the newly renovated station to add a little fun to the everyday lives of commuters. Officially called a 'transfer accelerator,' the slide was installed in this underutilized area as part of HIK Ontwerpers ongoing urban installations series.

Ok, first, awesome. Second, anger, why aren't these in more places, like... everywhere. Here I am using my legs like a fool! And third, I have another million dollar idea: put these in tall buildings as fire escapes. You could put slides in their own little stairwell seperate from the other stairs. It would get a lot of people down quickly and act as a backup to regular stairs. Also, people could/would ride it everyday anyway because it is awesome.

Pizza Toppings from Around the World

4 comments:
Pizza is beloved around the world, and it seems like every country and culture has it's own take on it. Here are some examples of pizza toppings/preferences from around the world. Also feel free to share any toppings or variations you are aware of.

Japan:
The Japanese love seafood on pizza, sweet corn, potatoes, mayonnaise, and hard boiled eggs. You can even find pizza with cod roe, tuna, octopus, seaweed and squid ink. I love you Japan, but that all sounds nasty.

India:
In India you can find typical toppings, but you can also find things like tandoori chicken and chicken tikka. Other toppings include minced mutton, pickled ginger, tofu, and a cottage cheese-like dairy product called paneer. Indians like to top their pizzas with plenty of chili flakes, ketchup, and other condiments. India, you crazy.

Brazil:
People love pizza in Brazil. Pizza in Brazil usually has a very thin layer of tomato sauce as a base on a thin crust. Along with some familiar toppings, you can also top corn, quail eggs, green peas, shredded carrots, beets, raisins, heart of palm, linguica sausage, guava jam, bananas, chocolate, and catupiry cheese, which is a type of cream cheese. Many pizza eaters in Brazil put ketchup or mustard on their pizzas. "Yes, I'll have a quail egg and heart of palm pizza with mustard please."

Russia:
In Russia you can order a pizza with traditional toppings, but they also love seafood on their pizza. A combo called "mockba" includes sardines, tuna, mackerel, salmon, and onions. Many Russians will also order a pizza with red herring.

Saudi Arabia:
Due to religious concerns, all meat toppings in Saudi Arabia are 100 percent beef, as pork is not eaten in this country. I can't imagine a life without bacon.

Australia:
In Australia you'll find pizza menus with ingredients such as cabanossi, capsicum, prawns, diced pumpkin, tomato chutney, eggs, and lamb. The top ingredients in Australia are pineapple, ham, peppers, and pepperoni; so not totally different from the US.

Romania:
Pizzas are usually thin-crust. They are topped with a minimal amount of sauce and cheese, but have plenty of other toppings. Toppings feature lots of vegetables, including corn. Pizzas are often served with ketchup on the side in two varieties, dulce (sweet) or picante (hot).

France:
In France they like flambée which consists of bacon, onion, and fresh cream.

Costa Rica:
People in Costa Rica like coconut on their pizza.

China:
In China many pizzas have a thousand island dressing base. Eel is also a popular topping.

Germany:
Asparagus is a popular topping as are eggs.

Sweden:
In Sweden they have a popular pizza called the "Hawaiian," it's topped with bananas, ham and curry powder.

Sweden also has a kebab pizza; here is a youtube video all about it.

Venezuela:
They like corn and goat cheese on their pizza.

New Zealand:
Here you can get a "meat pie" pizza, which is essentially like a sloppy joe, but with peas, corn, and cheese. It is then topped with a square of pastry with a tomato sauce swirl.

Finland:
Here you might find a pizza called Berlusconi, topped with smoked reindeer, chanterelle mushrooms and red onions.

Peelable Banana Popcicle

3 comments:
I want to try this so badly. Finally fruit that won't make me gag! Anyone know where I can get one?
Many would think that a peelable ice cream is unbelievable.

But it is now a reality and this playful eating experience can be enjoyed in the form of an innovative, fun and unusual ice cream stick, which is about to be rolled out across the globe this year, after its successful launch in Thailand as Eskimo Monkey.

Eaten like a banana, you start the playful experience by taking a bite from the top of the peelable jelly shell, which you then roll down like a banana skin to reveal a delicious ice cream core.

Unique and Strange Toilets and Urinals - Part 2

2 comments:
My first post on cool toilets and urinals was a success, so I thought I'd do another.
Gambling addicts can get their high while they make a mud pie.
I want to use this urinal so badly. First order of business: write my name.
Is that Fisherman's Wharf?
Lumberjacks have to pee somewhere.
Don't try this with a real shark.
Meanwhile in Japan. Is that a washing machine? Why?
For the person to fancy too poop in a poor mans toilet.
If you like pooing in your neighbors flower pots, but you are sick of all the lawsuits, this is the next best thing.
Yep, I think that is candy. A little snack while you sit and think.
Urinate into something beautiful
Because you shouldn't have to stop being a friendless loner when you go to the bathroom.
Sometimes I'm all: "I like this urinal, but I wish that it made me feel like I was tripping on LSD."
Because music is overrated.
Who doesn't get a thrill out of public urination?
Like I said, music sucks.
Why don't all urinals have these? Million dollar idea: Targets in toilet bowls.
Sweet 'stache man.
Mmm, organ meat.
Stick it to Satan.

Foie Gras Double Down Sandwich - by Joe Beef

No comments:
In case you aren't morbidly obese a fast food aficionado, the Double Down is KFC’s monster monster salute to heart disease. "It’s so meaty, there’s no room for a bun.." It consists of bacon, cheese, and mayo sandwiched between two deep-fried chicken cutlets. And it is 540 delicious calories, with 32 grams of fat.
Well, the chef at Joe Beef, Frédéric Morin, has taken the concept to new depths of gluttony, The Foie Gras Double Down. It's a whole lot of crispy bacon, extra sharp cheddar cheese, homemade aïoli, stuffed between two 3-ounce slabs of chicken-fried foie gras and drizzled in maple syrup. Some things are worth dying early for.

Cité A Docks - Student Dorms Made from Shipping Containers

No comments:
Cité A Docks is a student housing project, located in Le Havre, France from Cattani Architects. The 100 new student dorm rooms were created by transforming old shipping containers into a four-story building. Each apartment has 24 square meters and includes a bathroom and a kitchen. Pretty neat I guess, but do you still get to share a bathroom with 100 other guys and their collective shedded body hair?
