Would You Live in a Church?

I got this in an e-mail, pretty neat. Also, our friend Miss C provided a link to a website dedicated to this cool house, find it here. Apparently it's called the St. Nicholas Church House.

St Nicholas Church, Kyloe; Built in 1792 on the site of an earlier church dating from around the 1100's. Deconsecrated in the 80's after which it stood derelict for around 20 years. Taken on as a conversion project in 2002, now completed. The property comprises 1 acre of land, a large garden, outbuildings with planning permission for conversion to a 2 bedroom cottage and the church itself. Carefully and thoughtfully converted for domestic use, offering 4/5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, two reception rooms, two kitchens and huge open plan living area.

and yes, a house is a house - regardless of the previous occupant. Divine or not.

  3. I'm an Atheist and I'd totally live in that house. Church or not it looks like a great home. Plus think of the authenticate feel of D&D sessions!

  11. i would feel dirty having sex in there...

    ReplyDelete
  12. ..Uhmm.. what about the hundreds of dead people buried under those headstones??

    ReplyDelete
  13. The sex would be the best part!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Those hundreds of dead people are ..... DEAD. You 'fraid of Zombies? That is a magnificent place to live!

  15. Doesn't god want us to procreate? Why would sex be a problem? Are you afraid God would see????

    ReplyDelete
  16. God invented sex... it's supposed to feel good, it's supposed to be had. Chill out.

    ReplyDelete
  17. God created sex to be within the confines of marriage, between a man and a woman.
The church/house is incredible! The owners did a great job!

    ReplyDelete
  18. There is no god. Sex is how we procreate. It feels good because those creatures for whom it didn't, failed to breed so the "sex is boring" trait was not passed on.

The world is not magic, people, outside of Disney World, of course.

  19. I dunno about you guys, but the tombstones on the side would be enough to deter me from living there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I would hate to be you anonymous.

  21. My parents actually considered this ages ago; there were a couple church properties up for sale very cheap and well within their means at the time. However, there's a lot of cubic feet of space in there that would need to be heated in the winter, and they were not well insulated buildings.

Cool idea if you can afford it though.

    ReplyDelete
  22. LOL I WOULD. Except I'd staple centipedes to the walls too.

    O M G !
Now that is a Church I could live in. Does the communion wine come with it?

  24. now problems having sex in there.... as we have heard.... sex and church seems to be quite an issue these days... therefore it is nothing new and definitely not the first time....

  25. This is a magnificent work of art, living inside a place where both human art and spiritual blessings are part of the very wood. I've seen more modest transformations in England where common people of means have transformed churches into homes. And I know a man, an architect here at home in America, living in an old church in my town, not much younger than me. I think old, endangered churches should become homes for people of vision. Whatever their vision and inspiration.

  48. It's a beautiful home, with the stained glass and all. It would be a wonderful place to live - the world is God's church and this is just one place to find Him. The home probably holds many essences of past happy times and sorrows - all part of life and all part of God's plan.

  49. Somebody said "lovely etc except for the air-con and heating bills" - well, being in North Cumberland, no need to worry about air con bills, it will always stay cool, but in winter it would be brutally cold, even with excessive heating bills! You'd have to more or less "hibernate" upstairs for winter, unless you liked watching tv with steam coming out of your mouth. Can't see how you heat it when it's zero cent outside. But hey, I'd love it, goes without saying, you'd take the pain, spring would be that much more special!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes, it's amazing. And I'm Jewish!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes! That house is awesome...so interesting! I just wonder if it would feel kind of cold and drafty.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Absolutely gorgeous! I would live there without any hesitation.

    ReplyDelete
  53. That house is f**king gorgeous! Big, pretty, original, airy, spacious... Everything anyone could want in a new house!

    ReplyDelete
  54. No I wouldn't, I would make a night club out of it. Something like club confession in Vampire bloodlines.

    ReplyDelete
  55. fuskin AWESOME! DO WANT.

    ReplyDelete
  56. for the very first time in my life... i felt jealousy!

  58. I love the garden, all those graves give it a special touch :S

    ReplyDelete
  59. nonono!! there is a cemetery outside!! i would not want to walk out side on to some dead person!!

  60. It isn't in Cumberland (or properly Cumbria): it's in Northumberland.

  61. I would say that this couple is Blessed.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Id be afraid to its all so big and im so small...that sounded nasty XD lol but ya I would be kinda scared ta live there alone...not to mention the grave stones..and Im not all about church >:D BWHAHAHHAAH >;3 meow♬

    ReplyDelete
  63. Does Dracula live there? Oh I forgot Vampires can't go into churches. But still the high ceilings and huge dining room make it very cold. The biggest problem is the stain glass windows, nothing like Jesus, Mary, and Joseph spying your wang when you're plowing your wife.

    ReplyDelete
  64. That place would be freezing in winter and would cost a bomb to heat.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Organized religion breeds psychos. It is just a bloody building, for christ sake ... with some fabulous windows and a darn fine kitchen. When can I move in.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I would totaly live in a church - but instead i wanted to make one the head office to my business ;)

  67. We stayed in a converted wesleyan chapel, now a holiday cottage.Like this one the inside was awesome. The ground had been de-consecrated before building work started. The sex was unbelievable,it felt like the whole mezzanine floor was packed with ghosts egging us on(they gotta have their fun somehow)At the magic moment we both felt hands touching us all over as though the ghosts wanted to share the feelings(poor bastards)But WOW!! we've not experienced that since, even tho we went back years later.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Must be very eery on a cold wintery night

  70. I do live in a church!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I would love to have sex in that living room.. Nice noices..

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don't like the windows. I'd have to have them changed, and I especially don't like the yard! Otherwise, you could hang up some awesome lights.

    ReplyDelete
  73. im not gonna lie... some things would be a little awkward....

    ReplyDelete
  74. Church is a scam to get your money
I would def not, because thats stupid

    ReplyDelete
  75. It's kind of creepy. Maybe it's the windows.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Beautiful, the grave stones would keep me out of the yard at night, but i would still live there.

    ReplyDelete

  79. First place I got laid was in a graveyard. 16 years old, and at a "Christian" Youth Conference. The sex was great. The brain washing didn't work. I could live in a place like that.

I must say to Anonymous, May 14, 2010 11:04 AM . . . In Kyloe (it should read "Northumberland") heating, yes for many months of the year - air conditioning, maybe one afternoon every two hundred years or so.

    ReplyDelete
  81. God is an invisible man, so yea i would live in his house, he has no way of kicking me out

    ReplyDelete
  82. If you're having unprotected sex with the intent to conceive with your spouse, yet you're doing this in the back pew of a church, is it a sin?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Hell yes, beautiful house.
I live in a graveyard, it's a beautiful, tranquil place to live

    ReplyDelete
  84. Of course! It's an unbelievably beautiful house! Especially the bathroom!

    ReplyDelete
  85. would love to love to... provided thar was enough space and storage and off street parking

    ReplyDelete
  86. Sure! Live there. I'm a minister and anyone could or should live in a place like this if they like it. I would. A "church" is the people not the building and this is beautiful facility. So there is no "church" in this church.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Chuch -- YES!

    Funeral home -- NO!

    ReplyDelete
  88. That looks wonderfully spacious. People should come over there for service.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I would live there...in fact we just bought an old parish hall which we intend to renovate into a getaway cottage close to our favourite lake :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. NO. I would never ever ever live here. It is very beautiful, the stained glass is very unique and lovely...as soon as I thought about sleeping in that bed at night...omigosh that place has got to have something supernatural going on there.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I would totally live there. You superstitious folk need to check into reality. I could see the place scaring kids, but I don't have any yet. As a musician I bet it would make a great recording space too. As far as sex goes... hell yeah! It would be totally awesome to get it on in an old church.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Its just a building people, no diff than a reg home. In fact, it probly sux more so than a a reg home because of all the heating and air conditioning costs. I personally would love to own it, so i could burn it to the ground. -0)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Looks amazing!!! HOWEVER, there is no way on God's green earth that I would have sex in that "house"!

    ReplyDelete
  94. hellllll no i wouldn't live there. they have no TV in the living room OR the bedroom. these people are savages! And where is the PC? most horribly furnished house ever. bet they have an old iMac in the basement hooked up to dial-up.

    ReplyDelete
  95. utterly gross, complete with graveyard

    ReplyDelete
  96. In a heart beat i would move there.

    ReplyDelete
  97. THAT'S MY DAD'S HOUSE :D :D :D :D :D the last picture is my bedroom :)

    ReplyDelete
  98. Afternoon shorty :D

    ReplyDelete
  99. Dear "Anonymous August 14, 2010 8:55 AM"

We do not have an iMac in the cellar (there is no cellar) we do not have dial up, and we do not have a TV in the living room.

Why in your opinion does that make us savages.

In most homes the TV is placed as a focal point .. .rather like an alter .. (oddly enough) ... we prefer to focus on the fireplace, or each other. As for computers - I have a rather nifty VAIO, which I am using on my knee, by the magical power of wireless.

TV is no measure of sophistication, some of the most savage people I have encountered are slaves to its idiotic burblings.

Which is a phrase I will leave ringing whilst you reconsider your post.

    Kind regards

The residents of St Nicholas Church, Kyloe.
